Why should you consider joining us?
Membership.
Membership in Lions Clubs International is open to all persons over the
age of 18 having high moral character and a good reputation in his/her
community. Our club meets twice each month. Meetings typically involve a
dinner followed by an program or presentation. Members help their community with
service projects and by supporting local, national, and international
programs. Activities include fund raisers, social events, and interesting
programs at the regular meetings. Members follow the Lions objectives and
code of ethics.
Come As You Are.
As a member of a Lions
Club you are not required to buy any particular clothing or costume. You
wear no special hats, have no secret passwords and endure no mystical
initiation rites. There are no tricks, gimmicks or surprises.
You gain immediate
acceptance.
You have nothing to
prove: Lions accept you as you are. We don't care whether you're a doctor or
a doorman, whether you have a Ph.D. or a GED . There's no place for
snobbery in the Lions. You are welcomed whether you are 20 years old or 80
years young because age doesn't matter. And Lions don't care what your
religious beliefs are. That's your business. Lions welcome male and female
members, whether they are white, black, brown, or yellow.
You win the approval
of your peers.
When your friends,
neighbors and business associates learn that you have joined the Lions you
are likely to receive their approval. People are aware that Lions do good
things in their community. They may not comprehend precisely what it is
Lions do, but the Lions image is one of voluntary, constructive,
humanitarian contributions to those in need, especially the blind. When you
say you've become a Lion people know you are demonstrating an interest in
your community and in the welfare of its citizens.
You take pride in
your association.
As a Lion you are a
member of the largest service organization in the world. This an
organization with over 1,350,000 members in nearly 45,000 clubs in 197
countries. Lionism stretches around the world. As a member you receive a
Lions pin to wear and no matter where you travel that pin tells all who see
you that you are a caring citizen in your community. The pin will open doors
for you. Lions are always glad to spot fellow Lions and to offer their
friendship and assistance if needed.
You get a feeling of
accomplishment.
Membership offers an opportunity to participate with a group rather than
acting alone in helping those who are less fortunate. We know the
government often falls short of fulfilling the community's needs and we as
Lions are called upon to help our fellow citizens. Giving within the group
puts more impact, more effectiveness, behind our giving than if we stand
alone. Together, we can accomplish so much more.
You exploit your
talents.
As a member of the
Lions, there are plenty of opportunities to demonstrate your abilities as an
active committee member or chairman or as an organizer and leader of a
fund-raising or social event. If you'd like to be a better speaker there are
occasions when you may take to the floor, to practice, and improve your
delivery. And you can exploit your executive talents as a member of your
club's Board of Directors or as a club officer.
You make good contacts.
They say it's not what
you know but who you know that counts. In the Lions club you can count on
making contact with people well worth knowing. Membership places you in
the company of many successful individuals from a variety of business and
professional fields of endeavor. In addition to the friendships you make
you will very likely come into personal contact with members who can provide
you with valuable information and useful advice on many different subjects.
If your interest has been piqued or you'd
like to know more just contact any of
these club officers. We'll be more than happy to talk to you and
arrange a visit to a club meeting.
Still need convincing?
